Ecological Niches
The concept of niches is always being reviewed and can be viewed and interpreted in different ways. An ecological niche can be described as the ecological role and space that an organism fills in an ecosystem.
Water temperature can greatly effect an organisms ecological niche parameters. The image on the right displays the ecological niche of four co-occurring stream-dwelling vertebrates, each live within the same environment but will function and live within different parts of the lake to live more effectively. These realised niches can be calculated.
