Adaptation
All organisms have adaptations that help them survive and thrive. Some adaptations are structural. Structural adaptations are physical features of an organism like the bill on a bird or the fur on a bear. Other adaptations are behavioral.
During seasonal temperature changes organisms have to be able to adapt to the increase or decrease in order to survive. They may adapt structurally or behaviorally and they can do this in many ways.
During the cold winter months, animals usually have three main strategies to surviving inclement conditions, migration, dormancy, and toughing it out. Each species is suited to a particular variant of one strategy or the other, or a combination of strategic elements. But some animals have physical adaptations that allow them to cope with the changing temperatures. Some animals also have the ability to adapt to increasing temperatures during the summer months.
